Heres mi submission for the hackaday desing challenge hope you like it:
PLEASE GO TO THIS LINK if this webpage is taking time to load khanz.colombiaunderground.orgthe challenge consists about making a usefull circuit in a credit card`s dimetions PCB with the hackaday logo on it.
My desing is a patch antenna with the antenna itself being the skull logo! Some of the details of the logo have been removed in order to radiate properly and it only has one component and it is the type of connector you want to use to interfase with your wifi card, i suggest SMA edge mount but it can be hard to find, you can use whatever you want provided you can solder the ground to the back of the pcb and the feed to the line.
the desing process consisted building a model based on some physical parameters and by simulation sweep those parameters in order to find the required characteristics.
now the simulation ended with this design with the black part being the part wich will keep the copper and the white part not.
This needs to be made in a double layer pcb and the other layer to remain untouched.
To build this you only have to save it in your computer and print it, be sure to scale it rigth so the outer square remains 90*55mm and deliver it to some pcb printing service and make sure they use FR4, the specs will be given down


FR4's relative dielectric constant: 4.4 @ 1 GHz.
loss tangent: 0.02.
sustrate thickness: 62 mil (1.5748 mm)
Copper layer thickness:1 oz de cobre in a ft2 (35 μm aprox).

The antenna was tested on a vector network analyzer and the data of the reflected power coeficient in dBs is plotted here you can see that for the WIFI band the ratio of reflected power is minimun meaning that the antenna is radiating almost all of the power delevered to it. that means the antenna is OK


Field tests were made and the antenna behaved properly with a 2dBi gain in the direction perpendicular to the skull and almost none signal from the back. thanks to that it has almost twice the range of the monopole omni antenna shipped with almost AP.
Its a directive antenna that can be placed against a wall to avoid neigbohrs to get signal from your AP and to Amaze your friends with its cool Shape!!!
